Gonzalo Higuain NapoliNapoli attacker Gonzalo Higuain is on the verge of signing a contract extension which will see him stay at the club until 2019.

The 27-year-old scored on 18 occasions last term, and assisted another seven goals as the Partenopei narrowly missed out on Champions League football, finishing in fifth position.

However, Gazetta dello Sport reports that, as part of the deal, Higuain will earn up to  €6 million per year as well as see his release clause of €94 million drop should Napoli fail to qualify for Champions League football again in the upcoming season to facilitate a possible transfer elsewhere.

The Argentine international’s current contract with the club runs until the summer of 2018 and thus a new deal would extend his contract for a further year.

Higuain moved to Napoli from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 and has since established himself as the side’s main attacking threat.

The attacker, who was part of the Argentina’s Copa America final loss, has been reportedly been subject to interest from Premier League outfits Manchester United and Arsenal.
