Real Betis president Juan Carlos Ollero has quashed rumours that the Seville-based side might launch a bid for Fiorentina’s Joaquin.

The veteran winger began his career at Betis and had been linked with a return to the club.

However, speaking at Betis’ welcome to La Liga following their promotion, Ollero admitted that a return for Joaquin was not on the cards.

“Joaquin is a Fiorentina player,” he conceded, “and must be happy to play for them, he has a contract with them.

“At the moment, there is a player we are thinking about; by which I mean that Betis are working out what to do next, so at the moment Joaquin doesn’t come into our plans.”

Joaquin made more than 250 appearances for Real Betis before moving to Valencia, and has been with the Viola for two seasons, playing 49 games.
