Roma have officially announced the loan signing of Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

The Poland international has been allowed to leave the English Premier League side on a temporary basis after the arrival of Petr Cech, a situation that Roma have capitalised on to strengthen their side ahead of the new Serie A season.

“Welcome to AS Roma Wojciech Szczesny!” a tweet from the Roman side confirmed on Wednesday evening.

The 25-year-old had been the Gunners’ first choice goalkeeper since 2011, but lost his place at the turn of this year after a run of poor performances culminated in a dressing room incident.

Szczesny has won three trophies at Arsenal since breaking into the first team as a youth team product, with two consecutive FA Cup successes the highlight.

He will be able to continue playing Champions League football despite departing the Emirates Stadium, as Roma secured their passage through their second place Serie A finish last term.
