Roma are considering bringing back central midfielder Alberto Aquilani to the Stadio Olimpico.

Aquilani is now without a club after his contract with Fiorentina expired last month.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that Roma are considering a move for the free agent Aquilani, as they would prefer to use funds to strengthen other areas of the pitch.

Specifically, the capital club are looking for a striker, thought to be Edin Dzeko, and a left full back, with the club in negotiations to sign Abdul Rahman Baba from Augsburg.

Aquilani made 25 appearances in Serie A for Fiorentina last season, 8 of them as a substitute.

The Italian international started his career at the Giallorossi coming through the club’s youth academy.

The 31 year-old first made his debut for Roma back in 2002 and became a regular for the club in the 2004-2005 season.

Aquilani left Roma in 2009, moving to Liverpool for a reported fee of €20 million.
