Italian giants Roma have been alerted to a potential risk of food poisoning by the hotel who are currently hosting the side throughout their stay in Australia.

The Giallorossi are featuring in the International Champions Cup, alongside the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City, as they prepare for the new Serie A season.

However, Il Corriere Dello Sport has today reported that 15 tourists that have stayed at the Melbourne hotel have fallen ill with Salmonella food poisoning, eight of which needed hospital treatment.

The cases came to light on the 11th July, some days before the arrival of the Roma squad, though club officials have demanded assurances that the outbreak has been contained.

Coach Rudi Garcia and the team are currently eating food brought over from Italy which is normal procedure for the club, so as not to change the diet of the players who follow a strict menu specifically created by nutritionists.
