The transfer saga of Mohamed Salah’s return to Serie A side Fiorentina could be resolved with Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu moving to the Gigliati.

Having originally enacted a €1 million clause to keep Salah at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, Fiorentina found themselves without their man as the Egyptian snubbed a return to Tuscany, something which the winger’s parent club Chelsea are seeking to resolve without breach of contract.

Pressure from La Viola on the West London club could see the Blues send Spanish midfielder Romeu to Italy as compensation for the failure to provide 23-year-old Salah, with the sides yet to agree on a monetary value for the reneging of the original deal.

Defensive midfielder Romeu, also 23, joined the Premier League champions in 2011 but has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Valencia and most recently VfB Stuttgart, who finished 14th in last year’s Bundesliga after a fight with relegation.
