Walter Zenga’s Sampdoria will find out who they could face in the Europa League third qualifying round, at today’s draw in Nyon, Switzerland.

In total, 58 teams will compete in this third round; 25 enter at this stage having had byes for the previous rounds, while the other 33 teams have won in the opening two rounds.

The Blucerchiati qualified for the 2015-16 Europa League despite finishing seventh in Serie A, after cross-city rivals Genoa were denied their place for failing to obtain a UEFA license and an appeal process saw Sampdoria confirmed as entrants.

Sampdoria are seeded alongside English sides Southampton and West Ham United, as well as German outfit Borussia Dortmund who will be getting used to life after Jurgen Klopp.

The Italian club could come up against a number of different opponents, including Vitesse Arnhem, SK Sturm Graz, Charleroi and Shamrock Rovers.

Should Zenga’s team win their tie, they would advance to the play-off round – the final hurdle before the group stages.

This is far from the Genoan club’s first foray into European competition, the club already has an impressive pedigree, having narrowly lost the 1992 European Cup final to Barcelona and winning the European Super Cup in 1990 against Anderlecht.

The draw takes place at 13:00 CET with legs being played on July 30 and August 6.
