Sampdoria are set to go head-to-head for the signature of former Liverpool and Fiorentina midfielder Alberto Aquilani.
The 31-year-old Italian international was released by the Viola at the end of the season after his contract expired, and is on the hunt for a new club for the upcoming season.
According to Fanatik, Besiktas are keen to sign the former Roma midfielder, and want him to follow in the footsteps of his former team-mate Mario Gomez, who signed with the Super Lig club on Thursday.
Sampdoria realize that they are in need for reinforcements after the 4-0 home drubbing to Vojvodina in the Europa League on Thursday evening, and do not want to miss out on Aquilani either.
Aquilani made 27 appearances for Fiorentina across all competitions last term.
