Sampdoria are closing in on the signing of former Celtic star Georgios Samaras on a free transfer.
The 30-year-old Greek international endured a season to forget last term with West Bromwich Albion, in which he was was loaned out to Al-Hilal midway through the season after a lack of game-time.
The English Premier League side and the player mutually terminated their contract a year early this month, meaning the veteran striker is free to move to where he wishes.
According to Sport Italia, Sampdoria have contacted Samaras about a possible move to the Serie A, as they ramp up their search for a Stefano Okaka replacement.
Atalanta hit-man German Denis is believed to be the Blucerchiati’s first choice, but Samaras has been sounded out as a low-cost alternative for Walter Zenga’s outfit.
