Juan Gutierrez, sporting director at Santiago Wanderers has admitted that the club feel honoured to welcome back David Pizarro to the club where he began his career after his deal with Fiorentina expired.

Although Pizarro remained hopeful of staying with the Viola, no new deal was offered and his career has gone full circle and his new club are delighted to have signed the veteran.

“We are very proud and honoured to bring David [Pizarro] back,” Gutierrez told Firenzeviola.it.

“Our club trained him when he was a young talent with many dreams and now we welcome him back with open arms as an experienced man who has had a great career behind him.

“We made a large effort to bring him back here, it was a gift that we wanted to give our fans.”

Pizarro spent the majority of his European career in Italy, making over 100 appearances for both Udinese and Roma alongside shorter spells at Inter and Fiorentina.

Pizarro was also part of the Manchester City squad that won the 2011-12 Premier League although he didn’t make enough appearances to win a medal.
