Catania CrestLawyer Antonio De Rensis has slammed the legal process behind the probe into the latest Italian football match fixing scandal.

Calcio was rocked again by the burden of match fixing earlier this summer, as Catania admitted to rigging numerous Serie B matches last season, but top sports lawyer De Rensis has insisted that a thorough legal examination must be carried out.

“If you want to reform football in a process that lasts 10 days then nothing is being understood,” the Italian toldĀ Sportitalia.

“To give a message to those involved we have to make a credible and logical process.

“Maybe we need to give a five-year suspension to those who are illegal, but no innocent can be condemned.

“Who said that the processes should be conducted in a week?

“The problem of match-fixing should be solved radically, but we cannot do it if we show these guys that we can decide their destinies in a week.”

Catania president Antonino Pulvirenti admitted five counts of match fixing last month.
