Fiorentina defender Facundo Roncaglia is a step away from leaving the Gigliati as Ligue 1 giants Marseille close in on signing the player.

The 28-year-old’s future looks certain to be away from the Stadio Artemio Franchi with the Argentinian now deemed surplus to requirements in coach Paulo Sousa’s squad, and the former Boca Juniors man could now be on his way to the south of France with Marseille interested in his services.

Sky Sport Italia report that the French club remain in continuous negotiations with Fiorentina over the player, with suggestions that talks could come to a head by the end of the week.

OM coach Marcelo Bielsa is considered to be an extreme admirer of the Argentine and will reportedly try to bring him in at all costs, having already lost defenders Jeremy Morel and Rod Fanni since the end of last season.

Roncaglia joined Fiorentina in 2012 and has gone on to make 51 appearances, scoring three goals.
