Mertens-603x300English Premier League newboys Watford are plotting an ambitious move for Napoli’s Dries Mertens.

Partenopei coach Maurizio Sarri is believed to be continuing to plan his club revolution, but with the reality that players must be sold in order to make any more purchases, winger Dries Mertens may be offloaded this summer.

Watford have expressed keen interest in the Belgian star, having seen an attempt for Genoa’s Diego Perotti turned down, report Calcionews24.com.

Although all of Inter, Liverpool and Everton have made enquiries for Mertens, reports claim that Watford could actually be frontrunners for the signature of the 28-year-old.

As a result, it could be Napoli who clinch the signing of Genoa’s Perotti, using the money from the potential transfer of Mertens.

The former PSV man hit six Serie A goals last term, a considerably less productive effort than his debut season in Italy, where he struck 11 times from 33 appearances.
