Empoli at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The hosts opened the scoring through Carlos Bacca, and despite Riccardo Saponara levelling the score, Luiz Adriano popped up to score the winner and earn Sinisa Mihajlovic his first Serie A victory in charge of Milan.

It took just a quarter of an hour for the Rossoneri to find the net. A wonderfully weighted ball from Luiz Adriano fed Carlos Bacca through on goal, who rounded goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupuski to score his first for the club. The lead, however, was brief.

Empoli hit back through Riccardo Saponara, dashing into the box and nutmegging Diego Lopez to level the score against his former team.

The Italian threatened to score again before half time, but his powerful effort was gathered comfortably by Lopez.

Manuel Pucciarelli also almost gave the Tuscans the lead, but his shot bobbled just wide of the post.

Empoli began the second half in very much the same vein. Daniele Croce had a crack at goal from distance, but Lopez was able to parry it away.

Pucciarelli was found alone in the penalty area, but couldn’t make enough of a connection to trouble the goalkeeper.

Despite surrendering a lot of space and possession to the away side, Milan retook the lead through Luiz Adriano. Substitute Giacomo Bonaventura sent in a cross from the corner, which the Brazilian headed with grim determination past Skorupuski for his very first Rossoneri goal.

Although the hosts were far from dominant, they can at least take some comfort from the result. Marco Giampaolo is still to win a game in charge at Empoli but can take the positives from a fine display from his new side.
