AC Milan have arranged a summit in Sicily in the hope of signing Belgian midfielder Axel Witsel.

The Rossoneri have been monitoring the Zenit Saint- Petersburg star for the majority of the transfer window, but have yet to make a bid for the player amid the Russian side’s exorbitant demands.

Witsel is keen on the idea of a switch to the Italian giants but his club are currently holding out for a sum of €35 million which Milan are unwilling to match.

Instead, Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side are prepared to pay around €25m for the former Benfica midfielder plus bonuses as Milan vice president Adriano Galliani prepares to wait until the final week of the transfer window to thrash out a deal with the Russian Premier League side.

Witsel joined the Russian champions from Portuguese side Benfica in 2012 after they met the Belgian’s €40m buyout clause, however he has just two years left to run on his contract in Petersburg.
