montolivoAC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo has said he is eager to work his way back into the Milan starting XI.

The Italian international endured an injury plagued last season making just 10 appearances for the Rossoneri as they finished in a dismal 10th place in Serie A.

“In these two games the coach did not choose to play me but I’m here to work hard and try to put his mind at trouble,” Montolivo told reporters at his pre match press conference ahead of Milan’s game against Empoli.

“I have to accept the choices and I try to give my best.

“I just work on the field. I’m acting like players should when they are on the bench.

“Me and those who remain out of the team have to show the coach he is mistaken.

“Being the captain does not mean you have the place secured on the field.”

Montolivo was also clear that his first priority is Milan and not the Italian national team.

“It is a goal for me to play again for Italy.”

“But I have to get back to 100% and regain a place in the Milan team.

“Only if I do well at Milan I will return to the Italy team.”
