AC Milan defender Cristian Zaccardo is on the verge of joining Serie A new boys Carpi.

The Italian centre-back and 2006 World Cup winner could be looking at more time on the bench following recent new arrivals in defence at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, including those of Alessio Romagnoli, Davide Calabria and Rodrigo Ely.

This could therefore lead to Zaccardo wanting out of the squad in pursuit of more playing time, and Sport Mediaset reports that Milan have already granted permission for the 33-year-old to move to Carpi.

It is now up to the player himself to decide whether he wants to fight for a place in the starting 11 at Milan or find increased playing time elsewhere.

Zaccardo has only made 15 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri since joining from Parma in 2013 and he has scored one goal in that time.
