alessio romagnoli sampdoriaPremier League side Arsenal are set to hijack AC Milan’s move for Roma defender Alessio Romagnoli.

The Rossoneri had appeared to be on the brink of completing a deal for the 20-year-old after their latest bid of €22 million edged closer to the Giallorossi’s valuation, however the Gunners have been handed a lifeline in their pursuit of the defender and are set to make a bid of their own for the Italian U21 international.

According The Daily Telegraph, Arsene Wenger is keen to lure the defender to North London as he looks to strengthen Arsenal’s title hopes on the back of their Community Shield triumph over reigning Premier League champions Chelsea.

Former Blues goalkeeper Petr Cech is the only major addition to the Arsenal squad this season but Wenger believes Romagnoli could be the latest young player to thrive at the Emirates Stadium.

Romagnoli signed a four-year contract with the Lupi in May 2014, however his impressive displays on-loan at Sampdoria last season [under current Milan coach Sinisa Mihajlovic] have seen him strongly linked with an exit from the Italian capital.

One response to “Arsenal set to hijack AC Milan move for Roma defender”

  1. Arsenal will not even attempt to sign a defender, because they have enough defenders in their team. So to suggest Arsenal will compete for a defender is “HEAR SAY’ there is no truth about it, I would also be surprised if Wenger buy a player from Italy.
