The former Juventus and Dundee midfielder Ivano Bonetti is confident that the Bianconeri can beat Lazio in the Supercoppa Italiana even without the likes of the injured Giorgio Chiellini or Andrea Barzagli.

The fixture will be held in Shanghai on August 8 as the league and cup winners Juve take on the Biancocelesti who qualified as Coppa Italia runners-up.

“In a one-off game like the Supercoppa against Lazio, Juventus can win without the likes of Chiellini of Barzagli,” said Bonetti to Tuttomercatoweb.com

“Above all else, [coach Massimiliano] Allegri’s side is made up of good young players who are motivated and want to demonstrate that they aren’t worth less than the more experienced players.”

The former Tranmere Rovers, Genoa and Sampdoria player also spoke about the injuries faced by the Old Lady.

“At times these injuries can arrive at the start of the season and be a warning sign but at times these things can happen and not necessarily mean that much,” said Bonetti.

The 50-year-old was also asked if he thinks Juve should try to sign Mehdi Benatia from Bayern Munich.

“He’s a great defender, absolutely one of the strongest around,” said Bonetti.

“I would do everything possible to bring him in.

“I would get him without even considering Chiellini’s and Barzagli’s injuries.”
