Carpi have been trying to improve their squad since winning promotion from Serie B last season, potentially at the expense of key players from recent seasons.

The club from the province of Modena have worked their way up in recent years from the now defunct Lega Pro Seconda Divisione to Serie A but this summer they have been buying players with more Serie A experience.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, recruiting Serie A-standard players could detrimental to the starting positions of key players like Antonio Di Gaudio, Fabrizio Poli, Raffaele Bianco and Filippo Porcari.

Di Gaudio and Poli joined Carpi in 2010, when the club were in Italy’s fourth division, and they have played important roles in the Biancorossi’s meteoric rise.

Bianco spent the 2012-13 Lega Pro Prima Divisione season on loan from Juventus before moving permanently to Carpi in January 2014.

Porcari joined the club in 2013 when the club first reached Serie B and went on to become captain.

Carpi made their Serie A debut on Sunday night, losing 5-2 away to Sampdoria.
