Lazio 4-0 in their Sunday Serie A clash at the Stadio Bentegodi with four unanswered goals in a brilliant performance.

Lazio wasted no time in making a strong goalscoring push on the home side. Antonio Candreva was guilty of being unable to bury a spilled rebound from Bizzarri after sending Keita Balde through on goal in the 7th minute.

The Flying Donkeys made a terrific response, as just five minutes later Riccardo Meggiorini rifled a shot into the back of the net with a touch of luck. Valter Birsa sent a quick pass into the Italian who flicked a turn into a strong left footed volley towards goal, and the flight path was deflected off the chest of Santiago Gentiletti to roll helplessly past Etrit Berisha.

By the 30th minute the home side were really flying. A cross from Lucas Castro looked destined to bounce out of play beside Berisha’s net but Riccardo Meggiorini produced an astounding back-heel volley assist that landed perfectly on the head of Alberto Paloschi to double the lead for Chievo.

Lazio were dumfounded by half-time, as Meggiorini’s menacing run forced a clumsy foul from Stefan Radu. The ensuing free kick was curled perfectly by the left foot of Valter Birsa off the cross bar to give the Gialloblu a cozy 3-0 lead into the break.

Despite brief moments of resistance from Le Aquile, Chievo remained unfazed and kept strong. Alberto Paloschi netted a well worked play from Valter Birsa 20 minutes into the restart, and had even been wrongfully ruled offside for a goal moments earlier.

Stefano Pioli used up all substitutions by the 59th minute to give his depth players a chance, but his side couldn’t muster enough to overcome the heavy defeat.

Chievo are now top of Serie A after the first two rounds while Lazio are in 13th place.
