Napoli san paoloNapoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed his desire to rejuvenate the Stadio San Paolo.

The 66-year-old has stated that the planned new stadium will have a capacity of around 41,000 and that he hopes the two-year long project will begin in the coming spring.

“We want to give a new soul to the Stadio San Paolo,” said De Laurentiis to RadioKissKiss.

“The stadium will have a 41,000 capacity and it will be identical to that of the Juventus stadium.”

He continued: “I even think that this amount of seats could be excessive because the attendance is on the decline.”

“We hope that we can start the works next spring and eventually finish in 2018.

“I want this stadium to become a point of discussion in terms of the south of Italy.”

The Napoli president has also confirmed that the club are still on the look-out in the transfer market and they would like to strengthen their side defensively.

“We are looking for reinforcements in defence,” said De Laurentiis.

“I am content with Hysaj [Elseid] as the coach [Maurizio Sarri] knows him well and how to play him.

“But now we must focus on central defenders and full-backs.”
