Roberto Donadoni ParmaFormer Italy coach Roberto Donadoni thinks that concerns over the spending of Serie A sides in the summer transfer window are exaggerated.

The 51-year-old, out of work after leaving Parma in June, has observed the likes of AC Milan, Inter and Juventus as they have splashed the cash on big-money signings such as Carlos Bacca, Geoffrey Kondogbia, and Paulo Dybala.

“Italian teams are back to spending their money,” said Donadoni to SkySportItalia.

“This will prove important, although I have heard some exaggerated evaluations about how much.”

The ex-Milan midfielder also discussed the Rossoneri’s attempts at re-signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, having already bought Jose Mauri from Donadoni’s old club Parma.

“Ibrahimovic could be a major signing, although Milan have focused on young players so far,” said Donadoni.

“Mauri is just 19 but has managed to establish himself in Serie A despite a difficult season at Parma.

“He has a lot to learn, but if he stays humble he can make a quantum leap.”

Finally Donadoni discussed the Old Lady’s prospects and gave an update on his own future, as the former Livorno coach faces his first season out of football since starting out at Lecco in 2001.

“It will not be easy to replace [Andrea] Pirlo for Juventus, let alone [Carlos] Tevez and [Arturo] Vidal.”

“Maybe they will suffer a little bit now that their rivals are stronger.

He continued: “Being on vacation is nice, but I’m looking forward to getting back to work and out on the field.”
