Fiorentina defender Jose Basanta is reportedly set to complete a move back to Monterrey in the coming hours.

The 31-year-old, whose contract with the Viola was set to expire in June 2016, has been heavily linked with a return to the Mexican club in recent weeks and it seems like he’s on the verge of making the move official before the summer transfer window comes to a close.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Argentina international had already departed Italy for Mexico on Monday and is expected to sign a new deal with his former club as soon as possible.

Reports suggest that Fiorentina could now be looking to Inter defender Marco Andreolli to take the place of Basanta in their defence, though nothing has been confirmed.

The centre back, who arrived at the Gigliati from Monterrey in August 2014, scored two goals in his 24 Serie A appearances last term.
