The 57-year-old’s team scored two second half goals to secure a first win of the 2015/16 season, after a late 1-0 defeat in Sicily left the Rossoblu reeling last weekend.

“I am very pleased with the result and performance,” Gasperini told reporters after the match.

“The injustice last week took away from how well we played against Palermo, but we recovered with a win.

“This year we have a good group who are mixing well.”

Striker Serge Gakpe headed home on his first appearance for the Rossoblu since joining from Nantes, the Togolese forward adding to Leonardo Pavoletti’s sixth goal in six Serie A matches after the Italian was brought on moments before opening the scoring, before coming off injured.

“Pavoletti did very well, but unfortunately he has sprained ankle.”

“He will get better in the coming days I am sure.”
