Genoa left-back Luca Antonini is expected to leave the club shortly, after talks aimed at the cancellation of his contract took place.

The 33-year-old defender almost moved to English Premier League outfit Watford in January prior to their promotion to the top flight, but the player declined the opportunity.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Grifone will now release Antonini from the remaining 12 months of his current contract by mutual consent, thus leaving him free to find a new home for the rest of this season.

He previously made over a century of appearances during two spells with hometown club AC Milan, while featuring for a host of teams in between such as Sampdoria and Empoli.

Antonini has also played 34 times for Genoa since arriving at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in August 2013, scoring three goals along the way.
