Hellas Verona meet at the stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday on the back of differing results in the opening round of Serie A.

Whilst Verona earned a very credible draw at home to Scudetto-hopefuls Roma, the hosts fell to defeat in agonising circumstances against Palermo.

With less than a minute remaining in stoppage time, sloppy defending allowed Palermo defender Abdelhamid El Kaoutari to smash home the only goal of the game, meaning the Grifone left Sicily empty-handed.

Verona impressed against Roma and took a deserved lead through a Bosko Jankovic effort. It only took Roma five minutes, however, to equalise with a fine Alessandro Florenzi to earn Roma a share of the points.

The away side have history on their side in this fixture, with 16 wins to Genoa’s 11. The Grifone did come out on top last season however, having followed up a 2-2 draw at the stadio Bentegodi with a 5-2 win at the Luigi Ferraris.

New signing Goran Pandev looked sharp on his debut and will be hoping to break his goal-scoring duck for the club. Similarly, on-loan Olivier Ntcham caught the eye with an energetic performance and Genoa will be hoping for a similar impact from the bench from the Frenchman.

Venezuela midfielder Tomas Rincon is expected to return to the side, although key figures from the squad which earned a Europa League spot last season are still out injured most notably goalkeeper Mattia Perin and winger Diego Perrotti.

The Gialloblu have an almost full strength squad to choose from but are expected to name the same starting line-up that started the season.
