Sebastian Giovinco- TorontoFormer Juventus striker Sebastian Giovinco is currently the top scorer in MLS and according to his agent deserves to be called up to the Italian national team.

The ‘Atomic Ant’ currently has 16 goals in 21 games for Toronto FC and scored a hat trick against Kaka’s Orlando City as they won 4-1 on Wednesday.

“Sebastian is doing something exceptional.” said his agent Andrea D’Amico to Tuttomercatoweb.

“In Toronto he has become a star, brought charisma, quality and fun.

“His performances are giving joy to the Italian community and beyond.

“I think he is one of the best players in MLS.”

D’Amico was then asked whether Giovinco deserves a call-up to the Italian national squad.

“Sebastian is very quiet, Conte knows him very well, knows what are his features and what he can give.

“I think we have to get used to global football, with players selected from championships all over the world.

“I believe that now it is difficult to see an Italy represented by players who only play in Serie A.”

  1. Forza Napoli says:

Giovinco is a good enough player but technically speaking European football is a lot more competitive than MLS and with a much shorter season, I wouldn’t count on a call from Conte anytime soon.

  2. Alex says:

MLS is perhaps not on par with Europe technically or tactically speaking but it shouldn’t detract from what Giovinco is doing at Toronto FC. He is a blast to watch and along with Kamara and Villa have provided an interesting race for the scoring title. Now whether this will lead to a call up I don’t know. However, I will say this. Italy’s current attack force is not exactly one in which he can’t find at least an opportunity.

  3. il Norcino says:

Seba not being called up is a major insult. He is far better than Zaza and more reliable than Immobile. Conte is stubborn in his thinking and approach to the game. Verratti has pointed this out as well, and unfortunately we won’t see the end of this testa dura until we are eliminated too early once again. Then maybe we can have Ancelotti.

  4. zaza and giovinco up front would instantly make the azzuri a threat.
