Ranocchia - Napoli v InterInter defender and captain Andrea Ranocchia has turned down both Southampton and Borussia Dortmund on the final day of Italy’s transfer window.

The 27-year-old, who has been with the Nerazzurri since 2011, looked likely to be departing from Milan but has opted to stay put.

Soccernews.nl, a website based in The Netherlands, reported that the Dutch coach of Southampton Ronald Koeman, had been trying to land Ranocchia for the whole of last week.

The chasing of the Italian centre-back all appears to have been in vain however, with the former Genoa defender refusing to leave Italy.

Negotiations had progressed well between the two clubs until the player himself turned down the move, reflecting the same decision that saw him say no to German side Borussia Dortmund.

Ranocchia could still leave Inter however as a possible swap move for Roma’s Adem Ljajic remains in the pipeline.
