Inter striker Mauro Icardi has been announced as the cover star of the upcoming FIFA 16 video game.

The Argentine will feature on Italy’s version of the famous franchise, launching on September 24, alongside national compatriot Lionel Messi, who is a regular feature on the front cover.

“I’m proud to be on the cover of FIFA 16, alongside Lionel Messi, my teammate and friend,” said Icardi.

“I love playing FIFA with my teammates and family, and to be on the cover of FIFA 16 is a really exciting experience.”

Icardi shared Serie A’s top goalscorer accolade with Hellas Verona man Luca Toni last season, netting 22 goals.

FIFA 16 promises to be the best instalment yet, offering a fleshed out Career Mode and a brand new way to play money-making mode FIFA Ultimate Team.

The gaming title also announced that Italian legends Alessandro Nesta and Gennaro Gattuso will be making appearances in game, although exclusive to the Xbox One console.
