The striker moved to AC Milan on loan this summer after a poor season at Liverpool and there has been speculation recently that Conte could give him a place in the Azzurri squad for the upcoming 2016 European Championship qualifiers, which Conte says depends on his own desire to play for them.

“The doors are open to everyone but you have to earn your place in the team,” the 46-year-old told Mediaset.

“It’s up to Balotelli to earn his place with his performances and behaviour.”

Conte then talked about the overall goal of the national side in the competition.

“We have to optimise everything and make Italy proud in the Euros.”

Italy host Malta and Bulgaria on September 3 and 6 respectively in upcoming Euro qualifiers.

  1. im not sure why all the talk is mario.

he doesn’t move without the ball. he is very overrated.

in my opinion the two best threats up front for italy and the pairing that must be utilized for the azzuri is zaza and giovinco. both would complement each other perfectly.
