Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has praised the character of his side after they defeated Lazio 2-0 to win the Supercoppa Italiana in Shanghai.

The Bianconeri battled against windy conditions and a poor pitch at the Shanghai Stadium, but secured a record seventh title with second-half goals from debutants Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala.

“I am really happy for the lads for how well they adapted to the terrible conditions of the pitch,” Allegri told Rai Sport after the match.

“We needed to show a lot of character as it was important to win because we had some new players who need to settle in and we were missing some others.

“We are building a Juve that can have a future for the next four or five years, otherwise we may as well stick with the team we’ve got.

“We have a few days to prepare ahead of the start of the league and so far the staff working with me have done a great job getting ready for the new season.”
