Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta is targeting a new midfielder, but has dismissed links with Julian Draxler and Mario Gotze.
The Bianconeri have been searching for an attacking playmaker throughout the summer, but their attempts to secure a big-name signing for the role have so far come to nothing.
“We’re looking for a midfielder,” Marotta said in an interview with Rai Sport.
“We aren’t following one particular profile, but it must be a player who is of the right calibre for Juventus.
“[Mario] Gotze and [Julian] Draxler? We only made enquiries, but they didn’t result in any serious negotiations.”
He then turned his attention to Saturday’s Supercoppa Italiana clash with Lazio in Shanghai, which is a repeat of last season’s Coppa Italia final.
“We need to be patient [for the team to gel], but we want to win,” continued the 58-year-old.
“The Supercoppa is an official event, and a trophy that we care about.
“We must win.”
Marotta also commented on the extravagant transfer window spending by potential Serie A championship rivals Inter, who have already recruited such star names as Geoffrey Kondogbia and Stevan Jovetic in an effort to challenge Juve’s four-year domestic dominance.
“Inter, with the investment they’ve made, should absolutely be considered a candidate for the title.”
