Inter president Massimo Moratti has revealed that one of his favourite moments at the helm of the club was being awarded the 2006 league title, after it was stripped from rivals Juventus who were found guilty during the Calciopoli scandal.

The 70-year-old may have relinquished ownership of the Nerazzurri in 2013, with Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir taking over in Milan, but Moratti remains heavily associated with the Biscione.

“Being awarded that title, off the pitch, doesn’t make it any less important,” he told Premium Sport in an extensive interview.

“Though the Scudetto victory in 2009-10 was the one I suffered the most.”

He also discussed some of the Inter players and those that he would have liked to have signed.

“[Eric] Cantona, with him we could have been competitive right away. He would have made a big difference.

“I was at the ground when he kicked that supporter and thought that because of that we could have struck a deal [with Manchester United].

“We also tried to sign Francesco Totti who was almost out of contract, but Roma wouldn’t let him leave.”

The oil tycoon also mentioned the possibility of a return to Inter, stating: “In life you never know what might happen.”
