napoli sampdoriaNapoli and Sampdoria played out a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Stadio San Paolo on Sunday evening in Serie A.

A Gonzalo Higuain double in the first half put the Partenopei in control, but two goals in as many minutes by Eder after the break robbed the home team of their first win of the season.

Napoli showed their dominance in the beginning of the match with a goal after nine minutes. Higuain made a run in the box to receive a wonderful pass from Lorenzo Insigne and chipped the ball over the on-rushing Blucerchiati goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano with his first touch to open the scoreline in his team’s favour.

Shortly before half-time, Napoli punished Sampdoria’s poor marking with a second goal. Allan’s pass in the area found Higuain completely unmarked, giving the Argentinian plenty of time to make the most of the defensive error with a low shot in the far corner.

On one of their rare attacks Sampdoria received a penalty in the second half when Fernando, with a swift turn,  forced Raul Albiol to bring him down. Eder stepped up to take it and with a powerful shot left no chance for Pepe Reina, who dived the right way.

Not a minute had passed when it got from bad to worse for the Partenopei. Roberto Soriano found Eder inside the box and the in-form Italian international levelled the score at 2-2 with his fourth goal of the season.

With 10 minutes left to play, Sampdoria produced a lighting-quick counter attack that was finished off with a shot by Luis Muriel, but Pepe Reina, with the help of the crossbar, prevented the Blucerchiati from taking all three points.

The point leaves Napoli down in 14th place in Serie A while Sampdoria are in 6th.
