Edu Vargas - NapoliNapoli striker Eduardo Vargas has turned down a move to the Qatari Star League after an approach from Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille.

The 25-year-old Chile international was previously thought to be mulling over a move to the Middle East after a lucrative offer was made by Al-Ain, however French club Marseille look to have thrown a spanner in the works by changing the striker’s mind.

Il Mattino reports that Marseille have made an approach for the player under the demands of coach Marcelo Bielsa, who once ruled over Vargas during his tenure as the Chile national team coach.

The report suggests that Vargas would now prefer a move to the south of France and has asked Napoli to reject the Qatari club’s bid.

However, despite having captured the player’s interest, OM will still have to contend with the likes of Premier League side Arsenal who are also reportedly long-time admirers although the player’s agent denied there had been any contact with the English side.

Vargas has struggled to make an impact at Napoli since joining in 2012 and only made 19 appearances for the Partenopei in between three different loan moves.
