The former Fiorentina man joined City in 2013 and revealed his delight in scoring on his debut against Atalanta in the round of fixtures of the new Serie A season.

“The day I found out Manuel Pellegrini was going to exclude me from the Champions League squad [in February 2015] was the day I decided to leave City,” Jovetic told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It was a great feeling to score a goal on my debut, with only one minute remaining in my new stadium.

“Everyone was overjoyed. It was as if the fans all wanted to hug me. I almost felt like they were with me.

“The No.10 shirt was free after Mateo Kovacic left the club and they gave it to me so it is a dream.”

Jovetic then went onto to talk about his childhood in Montenegro and his time in England.

“I was more or less 10 years old and we would play in the streets of Podgorica. At a certain time everyday, sirens would go off.

“The sound was not the referee blowing the whistle, but a warning that bombs were being dropped in Montenegro and in my city as well.

“So we would run. We would lock ourselves in our homes and together we would all pray that the bombs, which were dropped by NATO, would not get us.

“I have matured a lot over the years.

“My experiences have strengthened my resolve and I have learned a lot from the players I played with at Manchester City.”
