Palermo are set to miss out on the signing of forward Joel Campbell as they cannot afford Arsenal’s demands for the 23-year-old.

The Rosanero are looking to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season after selling talisman striker Paulo Dybala to Juventus but have so far only been able to add 19-year-old forward Matheus Cassini from Corinthians.

According to CalcioNews24, the Costa Rican forward had been a key target for Giuseppe Iachini’s side but all hopes of a deal look to have ended after Palermo refused to meet the North London club’s €10 million asking price.

The Sicilians are now set to battle it out with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic in pursuit of Las Palmas forward Sergio Araujo, however the La Liga club are also set to demand a substantial fee for the Argentine striker.

Campbell joined Arsenal in 2011 but has barely featured for the Gunners after a series of loan deals, most recently at Primera Division side Villarreal and Greek giants Olympiakos.
