New Roma signing Wojciech Szczesny has said he is happy with his debut for the Serie A side.

The Polish goalkeeper joined the Giallorossi on a season-long loan from Arsenal and made his debut for Rudi Garcia’s side in a 2-0 defeat to Sporting Clube de Portugal, but despite the loss he is pleased to get started.

“Delighted to have played my first friendly game for AS Roma after a hard week of training with the team,” a post on his official Facebook page said.

“A big season ahead.”

The 25-year-old made 181 appearances for the Gunners before joining Roma and achieved 72 clean sheets during his time under Arsene Wenger, before leaving after the English Premier League club’s purchase of fellow goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Roma’s 2015/16 Serie A season kicks off on August 22 away to Hellas Verona.
