Walter Sabatini RomaRoma sporting director Walter Sabatini has apologised to Genoa for the confusion surrounding the potential transfer of Juan Manuel Iturbe to the Grifone.

It had appeared as though the 22-year-old was set to join the Ligurian club but Sabatini now acknowledges that he might stay with the Giallorossi after he was included by coach Rudi Garcia in the squad to face Juventus.

“I want to apologise to Genoa, their president and their fans,” said Sabatini to Mediaset Premium Sport.

“We opened a dialogue with them for the sake of the player’s [Iturbe] development because Genoa are a team that play fantastic football that suits his attributes.

“However, afterwards I had doubts about weakening Roma and I changed my mind.

“If that caused an unpleasant situation for Genoa then I publicly apologise.”

The 60-year-old also addressed the subject of Victor Ibarbo’s future at the Stadio Olimpico.

“Ibarbo had some doubts about his role here and we listened to him, but we want to keep him although in the end it depends on him,” added Sabatini.
