Roma midfielder Carlos Carbonero is poised to join Sampdoria.

Carbonero spent last season on loan at Cesena and was reasonably impressive in his first full season in Serie A, however due to the amount of midfielders the Giallorossi have he is deemed surplus to requirements at the Stadio Olimpico.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Il Doria have beaten local rivals Genoa to an agreement with I Lupi for the Colombian which will see Carbonero move on loan for a season.

The 25-year-old is on the verge of completing his medical before signing a contract with the Blucerchiati.

Carbonero is a Colombian international with five caps to his name and he was selected as part of the Colombia squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He has yet to play for parent club Roma who he signed for in 2014 after a spell at River Plate.
