Sampdoria’s chances of signing Alberto Aquilani are fading away after their defeat in the Europa League.

Il Doria lost 4-0 to Vojvodina in the first leg of their Europa League 3rd qualifying round tie, leaving them on the brink of elimination and an early exit in the competition could affect their pursuit of Aquilani.

According to Calcionews24.com, Aquilani is unlikely to join Sampdoria if they are not in the Europa League.

Aquilani is now eyeing up a move abroad with Lyon, Marseille and Besiktas all interested in the free agent after he left Fiorentina at the end of last season.

The 31-year-old made 27 appearances in all competitions for Fiorentina last season.

Aquilani began his career at his boyhood club Roma and has also played for Juventus and AC Milan in Serie A.
