Giampiero Ventura wants his Torino players to show progress when they face Pescara in the Coppa Italia on Sunday.

The Granata haven’t won the competition since 1993, but Ventura’s mind is focused on Toro continuing their efforts from pre-season into the third round of the Coppa before next week’s Serie A opener with Frosinone.

“The summer so far has been great, we have played friendlies against lower teams and now must find our rhythm,” said Ventura to reporters.

“The growth of the players should be in a natural way, we never put pressure on them and they all know that we have the basis to do well if we maintain our humility and desire.”

The Delfini knocked Torino out of the Coppa Italia in 2013, and Ventura believes his side should learn from how that game panned out.

“Two years ago they ran harder than us and started well,” the 67-year-old continued, “now we must not expect anything special, but an education as we learn and work to become a team.

“We want to give time to those who have joined the club recently, they have a good base to work on and will enter a little at a time.”
