Palermo beat Udinese 1-0 in Serie A at the Stadio Friuli on Sunday evening to make it two wins from their first two games of the 2015-16 season.

Luca Rigoni scored the only goal of the game with a header early in the first half.

The game started brightly with the first real goalmouth action producing the opening goal after eight minutes.

Palermo’s Franco Vazquez lofted the ball into the penalty area and Rigoni headed past Orestis Karnezis in the home goal to make it 1-0 to the Rosanero.

Udinese launched several attacks in the aftermath of the goal with Duvan Zapata in particular causing trouble, having a shot saved by Stefano Sorrentino and another blocked in the penalty area.

The hosts continued to press for an equaliser as the half went on and won several corners but were unable to capitalise on any of them.

As such, Palermo preserved their lead until the break and half-time came with the score remaining 1-0.

The home side picked up where they left off after half-time with Zapata again leading the charge and the striker sent a shot just wide after 58 minutes.

Five minutes later Palermo had Sorrentino to thank after the goalkeeper pulled off an excellent save from a Panagiotis Kone shot to keep his side in front.

The Rosanero’s task of holding their lead was then made more difficult when Aljaz Struna was sent off on 71 minutes for a second bookable offence.

The Zebrette’s final chance to level the score came after 89 minutes when Zapata saw a header excellently saved by Sorrentino.

Palermo then held on to seal the 1-0 win and maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.
