Vargas - Fiorentina

Juan Manuel Vargas has waved goodbye to former club Fiorentina following his move to Spanish club Real Betis in an open letter that reveals he had wished to end his career in Florence.

Vargas is the latest Fiorentina player to depart this summer, with the Tuscan club deciding to let the 31-year-old Peru International go after seven years at the club.

The man who is affectionately known as ‘El Loco’ took the time to pen an open letter to the Viola faithful, ahead of his unveiling as a Betis player in the coming days.

“To all my Viola brothers, we have shared so many emotions of the years, with happy moments that run so deep,” his letter began.

“It was always my last intention to write this goodbye letter, but unfortunately our paths now have to separate.

“Your warmth and your support have helped me in the hardest times, believe me, I will treasure this for the rest of my life.

“I had hoped to end my career in this city that has adopted me, but now I hope to remain in your hearts as much as the Viola shirt and the city will remain in mine.

“Forza Viola, Forza Firenze.

“Juan Manuel Vargas.”

Vargas became famed for his thunderous left foot during his time at Fiorentina and managed to play almost 200 games for the side, scoring 25 goals and gaining 27 assists in the process.
