Ledesma lazioFormer Lazio midfielder Cristian Ledesma is on the cusp of a Serie A exit, with Premier League outfit Watford the front-runners to sign the veteran.

The former Lecce man’s contract was not renewed this summer, meaning he was free to leave the Stadio Olimpico.

CalcioNews24.com suggest that the Moron-born midfielder’s representatives are in talks with Italian-owned Watford to negotiate their charge a move to the Premier League.

However, the newly-promoted Hornets may face competition from Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion for his signature.

Last month, Ledesma looked set to join MLS’s Seattle Sounders, but the deal came to nothing.

Having amassed 259 Serie A appearances for the Aquile, Ledesma was unable to secure a regular first team spot under Stefano Pioli last season.

Watford, under the control of the Pozzo family, have been host to a number of Italian players in recent seasons, as well as being coached by Gianfranco Zola.
