Juventus look set to have missed out on the signature of Julian Draxler to Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.

The Bianconeri have been pursuing the Schalke forward throughout the summer and seemed to be on the brink of agreeing a deal worth around €25 million for the 21-year-old forward, however, Wolfsburg look set to have moved ahead in the race for the player as the transfer window slams shut on Monday night.

Wolfsburg have money to spend after recently selling forward Kevin De Bruyne to Premier League side Manchester City for a fee of around €75 million.

According to the club’s sporting director, Klaus Allofs, it is the player himself who has expressed a desire to remain in the Bundesliga, but with Wolfsburg.

“There is a great desire of the player to join us,” Allofs told Wolfsburger Nachrichten.

Draxler had been a key target for the Bianconeri as well as Premier League giants Arsenal.
