The agent of Fiorentina defender Facundo Roncaglia has stated that his client is happy to remain with the Viola despite having had an agreement in place to join French giants Olympique de Marseille.

The Argentine centre-back joined the Italian club in 2012 but has since made only thirty-seven appearances in two seasons, before spending the 2014-15 season on loan at Genoa.

“We had an agreement with Marseille but in the end [Paulo Sousa] wanted to keep him, so he was happy to remain”, said Claudio Curti in an interview with Tuttomercatoweb.

“He still could have chosen to leave but decided to stay because he respects the new coach.”

He continued: “He loves the fact that the two can talk openly. Also, the coach likes to play with a high defensive line and considers Roncaglia to be ideal for this strategy.”

Curti then turned his attention to Roncaglia’s future, hinting that a possible contract extension will be discussed in the future.

“His next contract will be the most important of his career and therefore must be better than the current one. However, the initial aim is to improve and give everything for Fiorentina.”

The Argentine international has started in both of the Gigliati’s Serie A fixtures this season, alongside compatriot Gonzalo Rodriguez.
