Benitez - NapoliAC Milan‘s legendary coach Arrigo Sacchi has spoken out about former Napoli and current Real Madrid coach Rafael Benitez, believing that he was unlucky to have endured a tumultuous time in Italy.

The Spanish coach’s brief spell at Inter came three years before his appointment at Napoli, where he spent the last two seasons.

Tuttonapoli.it excerpted part of Sacchi’s conversation with Spanish newspaper AS in which the Italian expressed his sympathy for Benitez.

“Doing well at Inter was not easy,” Sacchi began.

“He arrived at a very special moment, after the team had won it all with [Jose] Mourinho.

“In Napoli it was equally difficult, since the city has such a winning mentality, even though the team has never won something really important although they had a player like [Diego] Maradona, the best player I’ve ever seen play.

“Working in similar environments is difficult, but I think Rafa’s teams have always played very proactive football.”
