Former Inter captain Giuseppe Bergomi believes that the Nerazzurri’s summer of spending has closed the gap on last year’s Serie A top two Juventus and Roma.

Roberto Mancini’s side splashed out on a number of key additions over the summer, bulking the squad with the signings of Geoffrey Kondogbia, Stevan Jovetic and Felipe Melo among many others.

Beppe, who is Inter’s second highest player in terms of appearances, believes the club can finally compete again:

“Yes, I think that after the purchases of the last day of the market, particularly Felipe Melo, that Inter has reached the strength of Roma and Juventus.

“Mancini certainly got what he wanted on the field.”

Bergomi continued to wax lyrical about the signing of Brazilian Felipe Melo, who joined from Galatasaray, having previously enjoyed at spell at Juventus.

“Roberto Mancini is looking for centimetres, pounds and personalities shared between the signings, and Felipe Melo gives him all this.”
